Hanna A - Cancer
During my son’s doctor appointment, a nurse noticed a lump on my neck and suggested I see a specialist. I was referred to Spartanburg-Greer ENT & Allergy, where Dr. Frederick Butehorn administered an ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy of the lump.
The biopsy revealed suspicious cells within a nodule in my thyroid gland. I was then referred to Dr. Erik Steiniger to perform a partial thyroidectomy. While recovering from surgery, I received the results from the full biopsy: Hürthle cell carcinoma, a rare form of thyroid cancer.
Dr. Steiniger explained my cancer diagnosis with great care and patience. Since Hürthle cell carcinoma is an atypical cancer, I would need to have the other half of my thyroid removed; however, early detection means an excellent prognosis.
I continue to manage cancer recovery with Dr. Paige Gault who monitors my thyroid hormone levels and cancer markers through routine labs and exams.
Currently, I’m cancer-free.
I’m thankful for the outstanding care I’ve received from the team at Spartanburg Regional. I’m grateful for each day I’m given and for those in healthcare who make it possible!
